Title: Star Wars Battle Packs: Ambush at Ilum
Week 2: Snowbunny Padmé
The Ambush at Ilum Battle Pack contains R2-D2, C-3PO and two Chameleon Droids in addition to the Padmé Amidala figure. The figures are in a more realistic style than how they appeared on screen. Based upon “Chapter 16” of Star Wars: Clone Wars, the final chapter in a three chapter arc which takes place predominately on the planet Ilum. Chameleon droids infiltrate a cave on Ilum from which the Jedi harvest lightsaber crystals. Jedi Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee are present in the cave and fight the droids. Padmé who is transporting Jedi Master Yoda diverts to Ilum to rescue them. When Yoda is slow to return to the yacht she wonders off and comes face-to-face with four droids herself.
This is the only multi-figure, multi-character pack to include an Amidala figure. While it has been pointed out that there have been far more Anakin Skywalker figures produced than Padmé figures, the number of carded figures is actually somewhat close. It is the large number of figures packed with vehicles or other figures that creates the discrepancy.
I purchased several of these Battle Packs, all at Target, at prices ranging from $4.98 to $19.99.
Padmé Naberrie, known better as Padmé Amidala, was portrayed by Israeli-born actress Natalie Portman in three Star Wars movies. Having been a fan of the actress prior to her casting and having been a collector of Star Wars memorabilia for most of my life, the Queen/Senator became the focus of my collecting. On this site, I hope to present one item from my collection each day for at least a full year. (I don’t know how many items I have.) On significant dates, I may present one or more non-Star Wars items in addition to or in lieu of a Padmé item.
In addition to Natalie Portman’s on-screen portrayal, Senator Padmé Amidala appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where she was voiced by Catherine Taber, and in the micro-series Star Wars: Clone Wars, where her voice was provided by Grey DeLisle. My collection includes items related to all three of these representations of the character and others.
Each post will contain photos of my item and/or stock photos of the item and a detailed description. When possible, I will include the date and location I acquired the item and the price.
While presenting a wide variety of materials, I plan to limit myself, at least initially, to one action figure and one trading card from the base set of a Topps, Decipher, or Wizards of the Coast card series each week.
The first dose of Padmé will come on Sunday, February 1, 2015.
